Bring Your Own Charger®
Off-Peak EV Charging Rebate
Earn Smart Charging Incentives by enrolling in the Bring Your Own Charger® (BYOC) program and charge your EV during overnight hours.
Enjoy up to 2,500 miles* of free driving by earning $10 per month for up to 12 months per EV
To enroll in the program you will need to:
Have an active Consumers Energy residential account
Charge your electric vehicle using a Level 2 charger or 240-volt charging cable
Charge overnight on weekdays between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Charge any time during weekends
There are times when you may have an urgent need to charge your EV. With the Bring Your Own Charger® program, you may charge up to three times each month outside of the essentials listed above without losing your incentive for that month.
Incentives are calculated monthly and paid quarterly. If you enroll in the program on or after the 20th of any month, your first incentive will be following month. You may choose to receive the incentive via PayPal, Venmo, or check. Electronic payments can only be issued to the email address (PayPal) or phone number (Venmo) provided on your application.
Applicant Requirements:
All Bring Your Own Charger® program participants must agree to participate in Consumers Energy’s Residential Time of Use Rate, Nighttime Savers, RPM_1050. When you enroll in Bring Your Own Charger®, your electric rate will be changed as part of the process. Customers currently enrolled in Residential Smart Hours, RSH_1040 will not be required to switch rates.
Recipients of the $500 PowerMIDrive home charger rebate are not eligible to participate in the Bring Your Own Charger® (BYOC) program.
Be sure to have this information handy to enroll:
Consumers Energy account number
Vehicle identification number (VIN)
EV Charger make, model and serial number (optional)
A picture of your vehicle's charging time or smart charger scheduled programmed to charge overnight
We recommend using a mobile device or tablet so you can take the picture while completing your application.
